|Niël Jonker was commissioned to create the bronze trophy for the Absa Cape Epic, the definitive and toughest of international mountain bike races that finished on Sunday after eight grueling days. The (rather heavy) trophy was raised above the weary heads of winning German Bulls team after covering some of the Cape´s most magical and untamed terrain.
Autumn in the Strandveld is the most magical season and co-insides with the next Baardskeerdersbos Art Route that takes place on 1 and 2 May. This time the focus is firmly on sculpture with the inclusion of several ceramic exhibitions in the village.
With the first rains rinsing the drought away, this dynamic natural setting comes alive with frogsong and musty smells, further enriching a visit to this unpretentious hamlet where several artists have chosen to work and open their studios three weekends a year.
