Autumn 2010
Niël Jonker was commissioned to create the bronze trophy for the Absa Cape Epic, the definitive and toughest of international mountain bike races that finished on Sunday after eight grueling days. Autumn in the Strandveld is the most magical season and co-insides with the next Baardskeerdersbos Art Route that takes place on 1 and 2 May. This time the focus is firmly on sculpture with the inclusion of several ceramic exhibitions in the village.

With the first rains rinsing the drought away, this dynamic natural setting comes alive with frogsong and musty smells, further enriching a visit to this unpretentious hamlet where several artists have chosen to work and open their studios three weekends a year.

Die Strandveld wat Jonker se gunsteling onderwerp is word ook eersdaags uitgebeeld in boekvorm, uitgegee deur Hemel en See Boeke.

Bread making workshops will be held at the end of each month at the Blerrie Big Bakoond in Baardskeerdersbos. This fun yet thorough workshop emphasises the secrets of slow fermentation, we visit the mill and explore wholegrains, and since learning is best done with a glass of wine in one hand …
