When I arrived in this region that is my current home, the Agulhs Plain, or "Strandveld", it was an Eden that lay before me, teaming with historical atmosphere and naturalistic drama.

I was amazed to hear the same sentiment the other day from my wine farmer friend and neighbour, Wayne Gabb from Lomond Wines. Besides winning the best Sauvignon Blanc in the world Award at the Decantar Magazine Wine Awards in the UK, Wayne´s wines reflect his unique personality. Never a dull moment passes when Wayne is in the room, as is the case with his white wines that are bottled per vineyard block as the soils are so various.

Terroir is the wine term for climatic and soil influences on the grape, and this made me think that landscape painting is not that far removed from wine making. So it came that we paired my paintings with his wine at a following wine show in October 2008, and had a lot of fun working through a couple of cases of the best Sauvignon Blanc in the world.
